Empowerment Academy is hiring a Guidance Counselor to serve our Middle School students beginning in the 2022/2023 School Year.

 

Salary: $62,500-$82,500 +

Requirements

  • Valid New Jersey DOE Issued School Counselor Certification or Certificate of Eligibility.
  • Guidance Counselor experience preferred.
  • Excellence in communication and counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families, staff and community with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Self-Starter and someone who takes initiative.

 

Counselor Responsibilities

  • Assists and counsels students to evaluate their aptitudes and potential.
  • Maintains various student records and ensures their confidentiality.
  • Provides information and prepares recommendations to other schools or programs as needed. This includes summer programs and enrichment opportunities.
  • Works closely with teachers, administrators, and other professional staff members, providing information and assistance where needed for the ultimate benefit of students.
  • Maintains a close relationship with the child study team and the Social Emotional Team on site.
  • Works closely with and involves parents in the resolution of school-related problems.
  • Assists in providing orientation and information to new students relative to school procedures, curriculum, and extracurricular opportunities. Also helps new students with their Social Emotional Learning and adjusting to a new environment.
  • Maintains a professional office environment, appropriate relationships with students, and positive relationships with the building administration, parents, other staff.
  • Assists in the evaluation of current curriculum offerings and in the planning, selection and implementation of new course offerings.
  • Makes effective use of community and staff resources and coordinates services with other staff in order to increase the benefits for students.
  • Provides for a smooth transition from middle school to high school, which may include orientation programs for students and parents.
